5. Day Glow by Motion Sickness of Time Travel
A magical combination: ambient-dream pop and female vocals. This has an otherworldly edge that will make you want to download the entire album. This can make an excellent progressive trance remix.

4. Starlite (D-Pulse Remix) by Paul Weller
You'd think you were shrooming, but no, no it's just the music. This reminds me of walking on the shores of Ibiza, witnessing a spectacular sunrise. Echoes of males vocals with lucid pop and breaks all in one. Who would've thought? This is perfection.

3. Hours by Tycho
Get comfortable in Scott Hensen's atmospheric tunes. He's back! Wordless narratives are the best, especially when they're composed of radiant synths.

2. Amor Fati by Washed Out
Trancy and indie melodies with a steady thump. The vocals make the song, but the beats are the soul.

1. Hello (Kenny Parkz Remix) by Martin Solveig & Dragonette
Though it's the least bombarding remix, it's unique due to the peak transforming itself into a rather soothing electric feel. This was also played in every city! I never grew tired of it because I always heard a new remix of it. Please, DL these other remixes: Awiin Remix, Blasterjaxx 'Dutch Afro' Bootleg, and the E-Thunder Remix. They're all fantastic.

Another Sunday, another mix. I've been doing so many "classics" mixes because well, the music was just so much better. However, we've been recently turned onto this whole Deep House movement as it's kind of right up our alley. Still housey, somewhat discoey, and it can still be danced to. Kind of reminds me of early/acid house from the late 80's/early 90's.

Therefore, this week's edition of Sunday School Mixology features some brand new tracks we're obsessing over mixed in with some super duper classics we're always obsessing over. It's not surprise that I am utterly and overly obsessed with the Acid/303 sounds. Travis Egedy, who usually produces trance, produced this beauty. He has actually received more attention from the media with this marvelous synth-pop piece, than with his trance beats. His stage name is Pictureplane.

9. Safety of Objects by Anni Rossi
Electro & indie pop are her fortes. All of her songs in her recent album titled "Heavy Meadows" are pleasing to the ear, with a variety of instruments throughout that promise tunes for different moods. The album was actually released in 2010, but this single is what's made the album somewhat known.

8. Raw Spectable (Diamond Rings Remix) by Miracle Fortress
A canadian indie rock band, whose album is actually soothingly rocky. If you're into soft indie rock or alternative.. this is for you. This remix turns it into something else, though.

7. I Found a Reason by VHS or Beta
This band is giving Depeche Mode style. They combine pop, disco, and house into one smooth sound. They also remind me of Cut Copy. Their next album "Diamond & Death" is scheduled to be released in September, and from what I hear of their first two albums, their 3rd project should be promising.

6. Throw Away This by Telepathe
These electropop girls have actually toured with Ladytron and The Faint. Their synthpop sounds are promised to resonate in your ear drums for days. Check out their song titled "Chrome's On It" also a fab track.

5. Back That Up (Original Mix) by Antranig
Antranig is a house music producer who is practically behind the scenes. ALL of his tracks have a force of their own, and are most likely to be club hits. If you don't move to this, you won't move to anything.

4. Pumped Up Kids (Chrome Canyon Remix) by Foster The People
They're a cool alternative band, but I like the remixes better, which have nothing to do with the actual band.

3. Mirros (Cosmic Kids Remix) by Superhumanoids
Cosmic Kids did a major facelift to this song, that is rather dull in its original state.

Cool mash up of the song and video... as the video IS a few decades old.

1. Now That I'm Real by Chad Valley
This whole entire album, by the name of Equatorial Ultravox, is great! It goes through valleys of moods from melancholic tunes to uplifting and euphoric melodies. His voice matches perfectly with what the sounds offer, echoes of colorful harmonies. Yes, it's possible! I have a special attachment to this entire album, as it reminds me of my stay in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

UPDATE: iamamiwhoami ACTION!

It is most certainly no secret that we here at Funky Brewster are sickly obsessed with a certain enigmatic electronica multimedia project; iamamiwhoami and that we have been since day uno! Today has been a crazy day in the creepy world of iam and we felt it best to give some updates on all that's going down....

After a 6 month hiatus, iamamiwhoami returns! After much speculation that the project was over once that amazing piece of long form video imagery they called "In Concert" was completed, we get an entirely new video AND song. What's best out of this whole spectacle is that we now have an entirely new storyline/mystery to rack our brains! ; john has been hailed amongst fans as their best work yet. The video proves that iam is knocking down this illusional wall that blocks our online lives with our real lives and in a sort-of transition. See for yourself....

2 weeks later the original website which aired the amazing "In Concert" updates with a promo shot taken on the set of the ; john video indicating iam will once again act in concert, yet this time we are given an exact event as to where this will take place and it is 100% in front of a live audience, or so we are led to believe. You never know with this bitch!

As the news leaks that iamamiwhoami is set to play at Sweden's Way Out West Festival (in short their version of a mini-Ultra) a second promo shot appears on the festival's website. A shot that is so far fetched from what this whole campaign has been about that it is very clear this is now becoming something more than just a viral campaign. This is very much a transition into a legendary electronic act. Get ready ya'll!

Just to add further onto the speculation a third promo image now appears on the D.E.F. Management website indicating they have signed iamamiwhoami. It should be noted that this agency is also managing head to acts such as Moby, Rex The Dog, Röyksopp, Kleerup, The Knife, Fever Ray and our beloved Robyn. The latter artists having at some point been speculated to be a part of the iamamiwhoami team.

So what does this all mean?? Who the fuck knows?? When do you ever know what anything in iam's world means?? While there may not be a distinct meaning to this all, it sure as hell is A LOT of activity coming from the iamamiwhoami camp. Activity that should prove to benefit the die-hard fans who thought they'd been left high and dry and newly interested parties alike.

We've been listening to a lot of hard house recently. Winter was always our season for debauchery in the Ft. Lauderdale gay clubs of yesteryear. We really miss the days when the music you heard in gay clubs was a bit more on the soulful side. It was drenched with snares, drums, 909 loops, and vocals from the Divas ruling the underground (not so much those who were ruling the Billboard 200). It was the melodies that ringed in your head repeatedly while making you strut your stuff under the neon nights. It was amazing!

The Lover That You Are is already a classic house track with them diva vocals. It got a bit of a fantastic refurbishment for the late night/circuit gays at the end of 1999. It was our Saint/Coli track, the one that made us strut our stuff under the mirror ball. The legendary TP Lords performed this track at The Saint one glorious Friday night, which was one of the first drag queen performances I'd ever seen back in my coming out days.

Alright, enough already. Download this shit, dim the lights, blast up your system, throw your hands in the air and sway back & forth while stomping your feet and doing your own rendition of Vougeing. WORK! -- MikeeGB

The Funky Brew team have bunkered down in a massive loft in Long Island City to gather their most treasured musical gems of the 2010 year and present them to you. Now, you most probably have already heard our rants and raves about each track, but this is a consolidated list which was put together while drinking some lovely champ.

10) Illusion - Kylie Minouge
Kylie provided us with a brilliant body of work with 'Aphrodite'. This is the stand-out track for us, and number 10 on our list!

9) XXXO - M.I.A.
While we weren't as impressed with her new album as we would have hoped to be, XXXO definitely is a great track that we will surely give much love to. Plus the video is so fucking lame that it's amazing. Check out M.I.A.'s fresh off the press mixtape 'Vicki Leekx' here.

8) One (Instrumental) - Swedish House Mafia
Pharell as much as I love you, the insturmental is just superb. While you add a special touch to the track, you totally are not needed. It's been some time since a severely main stream track has captured our hearts, so a congratulations goes to SHM for achieving that task.

7) 4th Of July (Fireworks) - Kelis
We would have put the entire album on here if this list permitted, but 4th of July would be the best track off the album to choose. While MikeeGB chose the Intro track, we came to an agreement that 4th of July best fit our end of year list. If you have yet to obtain Kelis's new album, crawl from under your rock because this is by far our contender for best album of 2010! WE ADORE YOU KELIS!!!

6) Avalanche - Erol Alkan & Boys Noize
We first heard this track roaring out of the soundsytem in the Carl Cox tent at Ultra 2010. While some of us in the crew were a bit off our rockers to remember, it stuck to MikeeGB like a condom on a penis. Great fucking track, sick fucking beat. Erol Alkan & Boys Noize together are like the electronic Sonny & Cher!

5) Invisible Light - Scissor Sisters
The Sisters NEVER dissapoint! When word got out of a new album in 2010 we were beyond ecstatic! There's always that one track a band releases that just solidify's your appreciation for their work, and is one that can you can literally repeat over and over, Invisible Light is it. Boy were these folks on the right track when they hired Stuart Price to exec produce Nightwork. This track is just beyond words....we adore.

4) One Eye Closed - Cocknbullkid
It's been a great year for our #2 obsession, Cocknbullkid. The New Year is already shaping up to be THE year for Cocknbullkid, what with the release of her first official album Adulthood!! We are beyond ecstatic to receive the rest of the album in our inbox! We simply adore Cocknbullkid. GET READY ANITA!!!

3) Dancing On My Own - Robyn
Robyn OWNED the year 2010! She had not one, not two, but three bodies of work which consolidated into one of the best electro/pop records EVER! This song is the epitome of one of our night's out. KONICHIWA BITCHES!

2) Indestructible - Robyn
Yup, she's also #2! We just adore Robyn so much that she has made our end of year list twice! This song is just too much for words to explain. Robyn, we thank you for making 2010 such an incredible year for us here at Funky Brewster!

1) Y - iamamiwhoami
It was THE year for Swedish acts in 2010. Now, no need to elaborate on our feelings for iamamiwhoami. By far, THE BEST musical project put together EVER. We can only hope that we will get more greatness from this act. It was a tough one to choose just one track out of the 7 they blessed us with this year. Y won simply because till this day we still call each other Little Hope.

How's this for takin' it back? Although La Rissa's classic was officially released in 1999, it made it's way into the club/rave scene well into the year 2000. I Do Both Jay & Jane was a bit of a shocker track, and only because it cemented itself into the radio airwaves and only proved that it was ok to like the same sex. It makes you feel the same!

It was completely odd, yet very inneresting to see even the straightest of b-boy's bust a move to this one while singing along full force to the lyrics. I wonder how it would have done had it been a male singing! Wait, back then it would have still been a hit....EVERYONE was gay, or at least willing to try it! There was no shame to anyone's game! Again a sheer product of a certain pill that was all the rage.

ANTHEM TIME!!!! Today's "takin' it back" track is uber amazing! The year 2000 was a great year for dance music, and an even better year for exquisite club ANTHEMS, Groovejet is in the Top 5! With the lovely Sophie Ellis Bextor on vocals and Italian based producer Spiller, this track became an instant monster in the clubs, radio, Ibiza, and festival circuit! Fresh off infamous UK dance label, Positiva which distributed a number of big club hits in 2000.

I wanted to post the original full length club mix for you, but I found this fuckin' fresh reworking on YouTube by The House Moguls which we wanted to spread. Green Velvet is absolutely notorious for his comedic lyrics that make some of the BEST dance songs around. I can't name one Green Velvet release that I am not infatuated with. Flash is definitely THE BEST, and Tenaglia's re-work is just superb. This was totally a CLUB BANGER in the year 2000! I think I might even recall a few parties I heard this at with very BIG balloons!

Hiya kids! Have we got a TREAT for you! From deep within the vaults, we have located a LIVE mix from SoBe disc jockey royalty, David Padilla! Now, you must excuse the not so fantastic quality as this mix comes from a cassette tape recording from back in the day pirate station Groove Radio.

Groove Radio was established sometime in 1999, picking up where Power 96's "Late Night Labratory" left off. The popularity of trance music would carry well into the 2000's, but Power 96 felt it be best that they feature a new genre of music on their airwaves (we all know what happened there).

The station would only appear in the evening's and would feature live mixes from Miami's big name electronic DJ's back then, along with a full length play of the most popular trance compilation CD's being sold in stores (i.e. Gatecrasher, Cream, Euphoria...)

The station which we believe was owned by resident DJ Concept even went on to throw their own parties in and around town, the best ones taking place in seedy warehouses around Hialeah! We appreciated Groove Radio immensely, as they were the ones who helped us discover one of my top 3 trance songs of all time, Groovezone's Eisbaer! This track was a regular in the station's rotation, and we called every other day to request. So thank you Groove Radio for continuing on in the airwaves for as long as you could! FLAVORED BEATS: BT - Never Gonna Come Back Down (Hybrid's BreakTek Remix)

Ahhhhh yes, it has begun! First track in our year-end "takin' it back" feature is a fab one! BT owned the early part of the 2000's, Never Gonna Come Back Down was one of his biggest hits featuring one of the best lyrics of all time, "Donde estas los digits to DJ Rap!". I kept repeating that one day when I hung out with her at Pawnshop. That is quite possibly the reason why she asked me to leave. =X

Hybrid was infamous for their trancey breakbeat esque remixes in the late 90's/early 00's. Their rendition of this track was one of their best! It's got their unique sound, and melodic breakdown built up all around the dark and gloomy male vocal. This track was featured on the Gone In 60 Seconds OST, and was also given love in The Mix Afterhours 2 compilation.

Seriously, Anita Blay aka Cocknbullkid is the baddest bitch to blow onto my iPod since the ghetto ass Trina days. This woman has a voice that's icy cool which "sounds like a boy, but she's a lady". AMAZING lyrics, significant scribblings of love any one in their right mind during their late-20's need in their lives. Gotta love dem' Brits.

I discovered my new favorite Cock slithering in and out of dialogue during an episode of last season's Gossip Girl. Thank god for that wonderful iPhone app, Shazam! I came to find that song playing on the show had an accompanying EP which was released the year before.

The Querelle EP features four amazing electro/pop tracks for the sassy. A little more digging, and a slew of B-Sides showcasing this new musical gem hit my iPod, and I was hooked on the Cock in more ways than one!

Almost 3 years later news surfaced that her debut album titled Adulthood was done and currently under polishing. I couldn't have been more happier as I'd finally have more of that brilliance. Then Ms. Anita blesses us with something str8 out of left field; A BRAND NEW SOUND! Not only was an album complete, but it would feature all new tracks, none of her previous work would make the cut. She was headed in a new direction.

When artists give their whole "I'm going in a different direction" speech with upcoming projects you can't help but feel let down. It's as if you didn't get that one action figure for Christmas, the one that deep down inside you wanted the most. However, you can always rely on "Santa Claus" to also come from left field and give you something even better than that one action figure, like you're very first computer!

This my fellow blog readers is EXACTLY what Ms. Blay has done to us. After dropping a teaser single, the infectious Chilly Gonzales penned self-titled track Cocknbullkid, her first single was revealed and played once on Radio 1 or 3 I believe. But no, then came the news that the first single has changed (although we were feeling Hold On To Your Misery). One Eye Closed would be the 100% confirmed first choice, and in all it's glory I couldn't have imagined anything else being released....not even a track reminiscent of her earlier work.

One Eye Closed is just a SICK track. It's got a hint of Bowie, a hint of The Cure, and ALL Cocknbullkid. An EXCELLENT choice to prep the fans for the new sound, we are BEYOND eager to hear what else Adulthood has in store for us!

TO THE BEAT: DJ LAZ - Red Alert 3000 (Spacemen LIVE! Rework)

Oh are we excited to post this one for ya'll!

Back in 1996 one of Miami's purveyor's of Bass Music released this ridiculously massive track that took the underground by storm. Red Alert taken off his Journey Into Bass LP was filled with thumping bass, and a melody that just made you release your body and got you in the groove. This track became a str8 up Miami classic, and the album is listed in the Top 20 that have defined my life so far.

Spacemen, the infamous FL masked men decided to take it upon themselves to spruce up the track with just a splash of their own sound that we have also come to love since the late 90's. Tearing up dance floors across the states, we've gotten some seriously amazing Breakbeat tracks from Spacemen, or Spacemen LIVE!, or Trip Theory, or Subliminal. Yea, they're some talented mofo's!

What we have here folks is a downright nasty rework showing that even 14 years or so later this track is and always will be the business. Thank you creatures from outer space for blessing the dance floor with your take on this classic. Make sure to check out their Soundcloud page for some dope ass beats. Even in 2010 Spacemen LIVE! still bring the heat!

This track has peaked to number one in most European countries over the summer. If you haven’t heard this beat, then you’re in for a gaggning surprise. The track was released in March 2010 and it’s a remake of a classic jazz tune “Tu Vuo Fa’ L’americano” (“You Want to be American”) by Italian singer/songwriter Renato Corasone. The original track was released in the 50s and it’s been remade and revamped into a club/dance song while preserving the soul of the original. Big ups to Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP for this booty shaking house beat that will forever remind me of my trip to London, Amsterdam, & Prague, where it was played non-stop.

"ELECTRO ISN'T DEAD!" - Robots With Rayguns

The only reason why I haven't deleted my Myspace account is because I always receive friend requests from the most random bands and artists, something that Facebook still lacks. So I received a friend request from Robots With Rayguns and I'm very reluctant to accept unfamiliar people as my friend on myspace and facebook, but the name caught my attention, so I let the friend request linger for about 2 months. When the summer rolled around and I finally had time to browse all of my myspace artist friend requests, I came across this artist, who I instantly fell in love with, well, the sound at least: Robots With Rayguns. I accepted.

After watching the videos and listening to the music, I messaged the artist and asked his permission to be featured on this blog. Without further ado, I would like to introduce the electro & pop sounds of Robots With Rayguns!

Biography:

"There isn't a lot of information available on me right now because I pulled a 'Polanksi' and fled the country.

Well...it's just me. I started producing music when I was about 13, doing experimental industrial/electro (under the moniker Gravemachine). After a Norwegian death metal band with the same name released an EP which got thrown together with my album on itunes as the same project (and everywhere else on the internet) I decided to focus on my other main project, RWR, in which I composed 80s Hook-driven inspired electropop. Then, this past winter I discovered the blogs. I had no idea there was an audience at all for this type of music, let alone such a rich one. I just finished the first album, "Electro Isnt Dead" which will be released next month, and the first single released through the blogs, "Sugarbaby" seems to have some success. It will be featured in a promotional ad for the August cover-shoot of ASOS Magazine. I guess that's about it for now. Lots of cool things ahead, though. Anything else you want to know or ask just let me know. I'm originally from Baltimore but just last month moved out to Phoenix, Arizona, where I plan on staying indefinitely."

This amazing band has achieved the integration of rock and dance. Delphic proved this theory, as the factual and melodious tunes on their new album "Acolyte" ring in new music in 2010. It is important to consider that most rock bands who even consider house as a cousin genre, ultimately fail miserably once they decide to cross-over. "Passion" by K5 happens to be one of these legendary tracks that changed people's musical habits, as far as mainstream music is concerned. Released in 1996, this electronic breakbeat rocksocker brought dance music out of the clubs and into the ear drums of the average American. Immediately after its release "Passion" could be heard on countless radio stations during daytime hours, and not only during the night time party mixes. "Passion" is one of those rare tunes that no matter how overplayed as it has become, chances are you can remember a pivotal event in your life when you listen to it again. Ok, so like we here at Funky Brewster are like totally buggin'. We can't believe Tai Murray (Brittany Murphy) has passed away! Our dreams of a Clueless sequel we're smashed when it was reported Brittany died of cardiac arrest, and the poor girl was only 32! What a year it's been with all these losses in the entertainment business. All we can say is, that was WAY harsh, Death! May Miss Murphy rest in peace, we love you Tai Murray!

In honor of this great actress we wanted to post the very song that played when we discovered her. Who can forget how adorablely Clueless Brittany was as Tai Murray in her first feature film, Clueless! Along with the release of this AMAZING track, Kelis has announced her next album is basically finished!! She's inked a deal with Interscope Records (Will.I.Am's Division), and we can expect the long player in the Spring of a brand new decade!

Acapella I can assure you will become this winter's club jam! Produced by overrated uber producer David Guetta, the track find's Kelis on the heel's of this radio friendly dance music craze. The track is very reminiscent of Donna Summer's work with Giorgio Moroder. She sounds lovely, and it's was written with her son Knight in mind. Makes me wanna PUMP!

I love when people just come up to me and ask me, "so, what kind of music do you listen to?" It always happens. I guess I have the I-listen-to-a-lot-of-music face. Recently, my co-worker who is from L.A. approached me and offered new Indie Rock music. I started jumping for joy once he left the classroom. We procrastinated, but we finally swapped music (actually, he gave me music. I have yet to give him music, but I will).

So, these guys, the Temper Trap, are from Australia and blew up in 2008. This CD is actually very promising. Most of their "pulsating" tracks are potential hits. They are a cross between Coldplay and U2. Dougy Mandagi, the lead singer, sounds a lot like Coldplay. I also came across their site on facebook, fortuitously. Hello fans,

I have missed blogging on here about music, so much! I'm back but not with actual tracks. During the summer I was traveling (Spain & Miami) and since May my computer has been, well, almost nonexistent. I am planning on buying a brand new mac soon, so I will return with tracks very soon. I, however, decided to post my top 10 tracks of every month on here; it's the least I can do. I post monthly notes on my facebook regarding my top 10 favorite tracks of the month. Since I started doing that I noticed that my taste in music fluctuates dramatically between genres. I have been that way for years, but became visually aware of it after reading my "top 10" notes some time after I posted them. After hearing the news of DJ AM's death, I immediately got inspired to make this mix, in his honor you can say! May he rest in peace. We also have The King Of Pop's birthday today, may he rest in peace as well. It's been a sad year for the music industry but thankfully their music and inspirations will always live on!

Lately, the crew and I have been frequenting this little hole in the wall in a far off island secluded in eastern Ft. Lauderdale. This island known as Wilton Manors is a mecca for the homosexual male. On any random Thursday night we can be seen parading through the streets with out a care in the world as we are on "Gay Super Hero Island" as we know it.

I had some crazy thoughts come into my head, which I will not elaborate on. I made this mix to kind of portray those thoughts. What if this island filled with gay super heroes were to go under attack. Who would attack them, and how would they fight back? Would they pre-vail?

Gentleman Who Fell is definitely an under the radar hit in my book. An exceptional song, that still rings in my ears and gets me humming around the office. Precisely what I did today that made me pump Milla's entire album at work. Who is Milla you ask? Well it's none other than gorgeous Dazed & Confused alumni Milla Jovovich. Yes, the bitch has an album.

Unlike recent "actresses" taking a stab at the music industry The Divine Comedy is a beautiful and addictive folk album. She cites that Kate Bush was a major influence on her music, and it certainly shows. We all know Funky Brewster loves them some Kate Bush so it's no surprise that we love this album as well.

Words can not explain the magnitude of The Proxy and their unique remix stylings. While I'm not relatively a big fan of the screeching sounds some bands now-a-days use a la MSTRKRFT, The Proxy's use is much more eclectic and the true definition of a floor filler. Well this is spankin' new for me anyways. Don't let that album cover fool you, Love Is Dead is actually a pretty fantastic and eclectic collection of music from a 21 year old girl from god knows where. Kerli released Love Is Dead last year, I just came across the title track in the series finale of The L Word. The catchy chorus reminded me of early 90's alternative girly bands a la Veruca Salt, Hole, Lucious Jackson (my absolute fav's BTW). I Shazamed the track and came across this cover.

Obviously the cover somewhat matched the opening song but upon further Wikipedia and iTunes research I got to sample the album and was pretty =O it was damn good! I umm...found the album somewhere and put it right onto my iPod and gave it a early morning listening party over pomegranate black tea and a green cupcake. I was in love.

While the whole album does indeed hold a strong rock/goth undertone when you hear the tracks it's really pop to a certain extent on the surface. Standout tracks include Up Up Up, Walking On Air, Strange Boy, and title track Love Is Dead. I wanted to post this because it appears no one has ever heard of this girl, and gosh darnit I think it's really a genuinely great debut album. Maybe it's just my obsession with pop darling's and their debut's...at least this one really sings and brings it all in a full package.

If you were a fan of Mickey Mouse Club also known as MMC in the early 90's then you should be well aware of who The Party are. I was such an obsessed fan of this obscure 90's tween band.

I made my parents take me to MGM Studios almost every month so I can attend taping's of MMC in the hopes The Party would perform...it never happened! However, I do have a photo of myself with the band....well a cardboard version of the band!

MMC managed to spew this pretty happening band in their hey day. They weren't exactly HUGE but big enough to now reach somewhat of a cult status with ridiculous prices on their first three album on eBay. They also managed to score the opening act title on Color Me Badd's tour in the early Nineties!

If anyone can get their hands on the second album (the only one I'm missing) PLEASE let me know!! If you remember who these kids are and enjoyed their music when you were younger, I hope you get a kick out of my favorite track they released, Sugar Is Sweet! FINALLY!!!!! Official word has been released on the 4th album by electro/punk rock goddess, Peaches! I Feel Cream is out in the states of May 5th (just in time for drunken fun on the Mexican holiday!). Back in October Miss Peach mentioned that Simian Mobile Disco, and Digitalism were among some of the producers on the new material. As if word of more Peaches goodness wasn't enough, this information sent us into a Pointer Sisters kind of excitement!

Last week with the official announcement of the new album, Drums of Death whom also lent his midas touch to the new album felt the much appreciated need to make a Peaches mix tape showcasing some of the new material. By the sound of it, it seems as if Peaches has taken a more vocal and pure dance direction with this record. I feel this is the perfect direction to take with the new album. While her last three efforts were all superb in my book, it's nice to see her getting in touch with the other side of talent she holds. With a bit of a preview on Downtown from Impeach My Bush, she surely has a pretty ass voice. One that I welcome with open arms.

Peaches is EDM's Madonna, except much dirtier and much more original. She is truly queen HBIC, and I can totally see her releasing albums for quite a while. Peaches never gets old, and thrills and excites with each project. May 5th can not come quick enough. ENJIZZOY! --MikeeGB

ROCK CLASSICA: Elvin Bishop - Fooled Around & Fell In Love

Obviously for me the best kind of "rock" music would be the type that adds a bit of electronic elements to it. Bands like ELO, Journey, The Who, and...Elvin Bishop. In the 70's the use of a synthesizer made for an interesting sound that took rock music to a whole 'nother level.

Fooled Around & Fell In Love is one of my favorite tracks from the era of 70' synth inspired rock music. It's got such an incredibly eerie feel to it while at the same time still being somewhat romantic. Since the movie Summer Of Sam featured it while the killer went on a rampage killing couples having sex in their cars it creeps me out even more.

On this day of love and devotion I hope you enjoy this timeless classic regardless of it's "cheating ways " message. I hope it makes you want to go out into your car with a loved one and have sexual relations. Just be sure to have a glock, and always be on the look out! LUV MikeeGB

Ok so in case you have yet to become obsessed with this new "dark comedy" sitcom, I am here to do my job and praise the fabulous!

I had been looking forward to this show once I read that Diablo Cody who wrote the movie Juno was working on a Showtime sitcom about a woman with multiple personalities. They already had me. Then I come to hear Toni Collette (a very exquisite actress, and an all time fav) was going to play that very woman. The show hadn't even aired and already I was a fan.

Now let me just say we are already on episode 4 and this show definitely went above and beyond my expectations. It's a FANTASTIC show that you all MUST get into. It funny, sad, thrilling, and genuine all in one. I urge you ALL to get into the Showtime action and make Tara your new best friend.

The opening theme is also quite fantastic itself. It has no official title but we can say it has a working title of United States Of Tara Opening Theme. Written and produced by Tim Delaughter of the Polyphonic Spree, it's absolutely a perfect fit to open the show. Enjoy a 57 second clip below, hopefully we'll get a full version of this magical track. I just realized since we started the blog that I haven't been very nice to my step-child...BASS music! Coming from Miami, we have very high levels of saturated BASS in our blood. We are the originators and purveyors of the funky boom!

I certainly miss the Miami Bass nights with Le Spam that the Poplife kids used to throw....BRING IT BACK! While Miami Bass music may have become a little more irrelevant in the nightclub scene recently well with the god awful surge of reggaeton music and what I like to call a millelollipop crap thats infected our radio stations. I am thankful that at least once a month we've got some happening around town that will def showcase the sound. We also have ourselves these "cutting edge" DJ's that will drop a BASS track that will get everyone on the floor only too switch it up and have everyone leave the floor.

Released in 1991, I Just Want To Use Your Love was a lukewarm Miami hit, but has certainly reached classic status. This actually came from my original cassette single so excuse the not so fab quality. This is obviously the original and much more superb version before DJ X reworked it a bit and Dance 93.1FM got their hands on it Great track, fab beat, and sick rhymes. HELLO EVERYONE! I hope everyone had a smashing Holiday season, I must say we had a wonderful one last year. So back to business....FABULOUS MUSIC!

Earlier this decade there was this track with very enchanting lyrics, and a great beat. I would here it around the underground party scene but could not for the life of me understand what it said or who it was by. Magically, the song popped up in a live mix on 93.3 FM while in Orlando and getting ready for some Cyberzone action. Thankfully I was recording the mix so I was destined to find the song, but I never did.

Then during the glorious Napster days I was downloading some tracks off of someone's folder who had a bunch of Breaks. Low and behold I FOUND THE TRACK! Unfortunately, not a full version but I didn't care. It sounds as if Hybrid may have been behind that particular mix, I'm not really sure. Personally I also loved the track because a very distinct lyric which says "Pray like Aretha Franklin". NO ONE believed that it actually said that but for the life of me I swore it did.

This past week while working out at a friends private gym, the song comes up on her iPod. As I was lifting some iron I cheerfully sang my favorite lyric. I was stopped in the middle of my set because of a minor argument with my friend on whether the song actually said that. She did some research, and found the track is actually a synth pop gem released in 1984.

AND IT DID SAY "PRAY LIKE ARETHA FRANKLIN"!!!

Along with the reprise of Italo Disco, 1998 also saw the rise of Trance music in Miami. Trance ruled the city streets at every corner you turned. Just like nightspots were created in the early 80's to showcase the Disco sound, the late 90's also brought some infamous joints created to showcase the Trance sound. The most notorious of them all was a little hole in the wall we called The Mix Afterhours.

Miami's very first official afterhours club was an instant smash amongst the Trance enthusiasts, and quickly became the only place to be. I spent numerous morning's staggering in and out of it's doors. Anyone who was a regular at The Mix will be able to back me up when I tell you that this place was just magical, drug use aside of course.

Ocean Drive called The Mix, "a show". All sorts of people from all corners of the world would unite at The Mix and dance the wee-hours of the morning to some hardcore Progressive House & Trance. The master of ceremonies in this little show was the famed David Padilla. He was offered the weekend-residency and built a sound system that blew every other club away. The sound system at The Mix was ridiculously amazing. It towered almost 10-15 feet with cavernous spaces that you would get kicked out of should you have stumbled into them. A feature that many other clubs soon began to emulate. Alongside the massive sound system, The Mix was also known for it's chill out back room.

The Mix prided itself not only on bringing the spotlight to Trance music, but also having a very fashionable concept. A concept that no club really achieved back then which was making every person feel like a part of their family. The Mix was so successful that they also released two compilations on Container Records that still bring chills down my spine when I listen to them. The first was recorded live at The Mix by Padilla, and the second was a dual disc set mixed by The Mix's manager who soon became an addition to the line-up, Gee-Ohh & DJNA. You can still catch Gee-Ohh throw down at America's Backyard in Ft. Lauderdale.

Here is one of my favorite floor fillers from The Mix taken directly from Disc 1 of their first compilation. The system roared to this one when Padilla cued the first beat! LONG LIVE THE MIX AFTERHOURS!!!

Follow Me was a frickin' MEGA HIT in 1998. A favorite of Roly's, this track was played at any night's peak. Our crew was SO obsessed with this song. Whenever we decided to stay in we would all rendezvous at someone's crib, play Follow Me among other classic dance tracks, and go glow stick crazy. What losers we were! LMAO

German troupe Space Frog released Follow Me in 1997. It hit the U.S. shores in 1998 and made a big impact on the SoBe club scene. I remember we had to place a special order for the Maxi CD at Uncle Sams because they didn't carry it. I also remember coming across the 12" at one of the Flamingo Plaza thrift stores, but only to find that the record was missing! A car ride to SoBe wasn't the same unless you had Power 96 pumping the jams out yo radio, or a mixtape you had recorded the night before while Zog was spinning live and you decided to stay home. Back in the days Power 96 was a bad ass little radio station. God knows whatever happened to it, I guess it's a simple sign of the times.

This mix was ripped straight off an old ass cassette, Gr00veMan was very good about keeping all his old tapes. I begged and pleaded that he give them all to me when he parted ways to the Big Apple, and thankfully HE DID! The quality of course is not 100%, but the music can be heard loud and clear.

"Trip Hop" to us Miamians was a mix of House and "Freestyle Breaks" with a dash of Acid sounds thrown in. Eventually the term resorted too "Trip House" which ended up being a much better way to categorize the sound as "Trip Hop" was actually already a completely different genre. I'm very thankful that I got the opportunity to start clubbing when I did. The late Nineties not only brought fabulous House music to the Magic City, but also classic disco tunes re-emerged and captured yet another generation of fans. "Retro" as we would call it was actually Italo Disco and High Energy music all mixed as one. The kids would pack the dancefloors and sway side to side as DJ Zog or DJ Percy would spin classics that were recorded before some were even born (like myself!)

Tonight was and still is an amazing track! A "Retro" set was incomplete unless one of Laszlo's tracks made an appearance either in the clubs or on Power 96. Ken Laszlo believe it or not is about the only Italo Disco artist to have sold over a million records. It's funny how time really does change things, no one would be caught dead playing these kind of songs at clubs now a days....unless you go to Alcazaba's or something LOL! Their remix of John Creamer's Lift Up The Needle was indeed one of the best "blow-up" songs from 1998. By 1999 this song was a staple in any House DJ's set. If you have said yes to any or all of the above, CONGRATULATIONS! Pat yourself on the back as you were a part of one of the most vibrant and memorable era's of SoBe nightlife. The clubs would still let anyone who looked the age, or at least the part in (the age being 18!). Italo /Retro music was re-discovered and became an obsession of the Miami youth. House music was at it's best, drums were non-existent. Everyone was equal, unless you were a promoter. Times were just fine and dandy, and SoBe was the place, unless you were venturing off to a club somewhere in the suburbs.

The height of this era was 1998. Yes folks, it's been an entire decade since we all wreaked havoc on SoBe night after night. We would like to dedicate this final month in 2008 to all the good times that took place 10 years ago. We'll post some of the best tracks from that time, post some of the most obscure flyers we picked up off the floor, and tell some of our best stories from that era. Damn I'm starting to feel old!

I remember dancing on top of those speakers at Amnesia doing the little side to side retro dance to this first track. M:G released Sweet Honesty in 1998. With the tracks freestyle feel it became an instant summer classic in the clubs. The track has even take a spot on the Billboard Hot 100! I've been listening to my "Kylie X Demo" album a lot recently. In 2007 I was ecstatic thinking I had my hands on a copy of her tenth studio album X before it's release date, but came to find it was a bunch of unreleased tracks and remixes. WOOO HOOOO!!!!!

I must say the two tracks Kylie did with Mylo are super delicious! I love them both very much, but In The Mood For Love is sheer genius! The beat, her voice, the climax just make me sizzle! I'm amazed that they didn't make it on the album as they fit perfectly with the final piece. I always said X should have been a dual disc full of Kylie greatness!

So ok, Wild Mary is this incredibly obscure Freestyle/Hi NRG/gender bending band. I say gender bending because I can't even tell if the singers are male or female really. You may have heard of their mega hit and one of my favorite "retro" jams, No One Knows Where She Goes.

I was seeking the 12" years ago at a moderately priced to possibly even free deal. Thanks to my super wonderful ex-boyfriend, he came around and gave me his copy sometime last year. Earlier this year while walking around Union Square in NYC I came across a record stand at one of those street fairs/flea markets. What seemed like 10 minutes to me was about 2 hours to poor Gr00veman of Mikee just going through each crate. Thank you Oso for being so patient, cause if not I would have never forgiven you.

I pulled out about 19 records, quite a few were very rare and some I had been in desperate search of at which I paid a single buck for each! One of those records was this Pantera release of the No One Know Where She Goes 12", but it had a B-side folks!! I wasn't even aware Wild Mary had made another track, but this record contained another track titled Maya Maya. As simple as it is and redundant as it may sound, it's pretty kick ass! I think he even says Coochie in the song....what do you think?!!

When I first heard the song I thought it would sound pretty amazing if it was slowed down and made kinda gothicish. So I did just that. I added that creepiness also just for shits and giggles! -- MikeeGB

I was cleaning a bit this past weekend and as I was dusting off my records I came across this classic. I put it on, and rediscovered how incredibly fantastic this track is. Released in 1987 on Atlantic Records, Something Tells Me became the theme song to a late 80's Harrison Ford flick, Frantic.

The best thing about this track aside from the infectious chorus is that a Miami bred disc jockey mixed and edited it. The legendary Ciro Llerena also known as the resident DJ at Casanova's which was a mere 3 blocks away from my grandparent's home takes the cookie.

After my mother's reign as dancefloor queen, and after she spit me out I can recall those days when I would be hand in hand with my grandmother as we dropped off my aunt at the door of Casanova's. I remember how I always wanted to just run right inside with my little 4 year old self. How I wish I was my age now back then, when Hialeah was the place to be. Thank Jesus, Joseph, and Mary that music still lives hard. I should TOTALLY do a cover of this song. -- MikeeGB

Along with this glorious and historical election, it's been a very gloomy day in the world of Janet Jackson fandom. My absolute favorite singer has just cancelled the remaining "postponed" dates of her fabulous Rock Witchu tour. One of those dates just happened to be the only one I was gonna be able to attend. My first time with 3rd row seats to ANY musical concert.

In lieu of this situation I of course would post a very under appreciated song of the singer. One that never even made it on an album, a bonus track off the TOTALLY under appreciated Damita Jo album. All hail the queen of midnight horror...ELVIRA!!!

I am the BIGGEST Elvira fan known to man. I constantly sat in front of the TV as a child either watching one of her fabulous re-runs of Elvira's Midnight Madness (one of her early 80's hosting gig of cheesy horror movies), or one of her superior low budget films. My absolute favorite of Elvira's work is the infamous ..Mistress Of The Dark movie.

Released in 1988, the movie naturally wasn't a smash hit, but of course holds till this day an incredibly strong cult following. I remember I lied to my parents and told them I had lost the VHS tape, and never returned it to King Kong Video in Hialeah. Elvira: Mistress of the Dark was all mine!

My favorite time of the year has officially arrived. I love Halloween because of all the spooky debauchery that takes place. It's also a reminder that the next coming months will be filled with family gatherings, great food & booze, fabulous parties, hopefully some sexual endeavors, a brand new year, great hair days, and lots of presents!

We here at Funky Brewster will by any means necessary try to get ourselves and our readers into the Holiday spirit. This entire week will be dedicated to tracks we love that have a very very creepy appeal to them. Our first track which I post on this first chilly day of "Miami Autumn" is a definitely a killer!

This track takes me waaaay back to 1998 when I was sitting on top of plastic castles at 6 A.M with 60" parachute pants at a mini amusement park me and the crew frequented almost every weekend. "Smoke Dis" samples the theme from the movie "Halloween" composed by infamous horror master, John Carpenter (more of his stuff later on in the week!)

So my friend Nando tells me that Roger Sanchez is spinning at Webster Hall. Me, being the lover of sexy house that I am, of course accepts his offer. It was free before 11 anyway, and you can't beat that. I had always listened to Roger's compilations and his beats just completely drove me insane! Despite the fact that I never really thought of listening to jazzy acid house at a club, I went anyway. I was awaiting his legendary "Te Quiero" track, which according to his best friend (who I met when I first moved to NYC, and then lost his business card!!! ugh) is one of his favorite tracks.

This event turned out to be one of the best events I had ever attended in New York City. He played more old school hard house/trance with the vocals of all of his sexy house tracks, except of course "Te Quiero". The music that came out of that DJ booth was out of this universe. The party itself was ostentatiously enthralling! We couldn't decide what room to go into and what boys to stare at, or if to stare at the ladies too, because they too were beautiful. I found a party with a Miami-like atmosphere in Manhattan.

Once we had enough (which we didn't, we just had responsibilities), we went to the car, and I played "Te Quiero" as loud as my system could play it. Despite the fact that we did not hear the song in the event, it definitely defines that legendary night that Nando and I spent listening to Roger Sanchez. - Gr00veMan
